This tale of two rare and wonderful Belouch rugs starts in Paris, France 1975 when RK was fortunate enough to have been in the right place at the right time to find this rug hanging on the wall:
Archetype Belouch small rug, ex-Cassin Collection
Some years later after being incessently pestered and hounded by a former London dealer we sold it to him knowing it would be instantly flipped it to a California collector. Soon thereafter that collector’s death brought it back onto the market and it is now in the collection of a friend of ours who purchased it from that rug-moron mark hopkins.
RK has always remembered that little Belouch and kept an eye peeled for another of its family.
Over the years we never saw or heard of one but fast forward to 2009 and once again thanks to good fortune we finally located and purchased the following Belouch of equal if not superior merit:
Archetype Belouch, Purchased 10/09
So when RK says he doesn’t think much of Belouch weavings please note we do recognize there are a few that deserve not only our attention but also our admiration.
