Recently RK learned mr michael franses has been relieved of his position with the Qatar Museum Authority where he had been employed for the past years.
His job title was curator for special projects but in fact he was basically the carpet 'expert' for the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA).
According to his written comments to Gunter Raps, franses had a contract until 2017 and while we do not know the exact particulars how his contract was terminated we have heard it in fact has been.
Also according to what he wrote to Gunter franses hoped to organize a monumental exhibition of classical oriental rugs, as well as publish an extravagant 2 volume work of the 'world's greatest' carpets.
Both these projects have now been deep-sixed, and we have heard franses is frantically trying to salvage them, probably to no avail.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
