Topic: Catal Huyuk Redux

A recent exhibition in Istanbul Turkey on Catal Huyuk, the famous archaeological site discovered by James Mellaart, will run until the 14th of Jan. 2018.

It commemorates the supposed "25th season" of investigating this site.

However, this is terribly misleading as long before this 'secord round' of digging Mellaart initiated work beginning in 1961 and his four seasons of archaeological investigations discovered and published a huge amount of remarkable information, objects and wall-paintings.

RK believes it is totally outrageous this exhibition makes absolutely no references to Mellaart and his innovative and important work, both as the discoverer and principal proponent of describing Catal Huyuk's importance in the story of human history.

Here is a link to the exhibition:

The title of the exhibition "The Curious Case of Catal Huyuk" is rather nonsensical, as there is actually nothing 'curious' about Catal Huyuk any more than any other prehistoric archaeological site.

In fact, the only thing that is curious is why the organizers and those behind this exhibition completely avoided mentioning Mellaart, his accomplishments at Catal Huyuk and the other equally important and somewhat earlier Anatolian site Hacilar he also discovered and investigated.
